Examinations

Although there is never any pressure for my pupils to enter examinations, I often feel that after weeks and months of their hard work, it can be very rewarding for them to see how much progress they have made in the form of a report and certificate from an external examination board

Whilst Keyboard examinations are totally voluntary for all my pupils there are occasions where certification, especially Music Theory, can be an advantage for pupils studying music GCSE or when studying for the higher grades in musical instruments but need a Music Theory Grade to progress up the ladder in their practical examination

In my experience the Victoria College of Music, founded in 1890, provides a broad choice of examination pieces for the Electronic Keyboard examinations which are suitable for all ages with additional pieces available from the London Music Press

With regards to the examinations for Music Theory, I tend to follow the wideley accepted Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) for music theory examinations
